In His Steps |
Doug Stevens is director of The Renewal Project, a ministry founded in 1996 that provides coaching for pastors, staff and other congregational leaders in a wide variety of circumstances and conditions. He recently completed a two and a half year term (2006-08) as part-time interim senior pastor at Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church. He was formerly senior pastor of Hillside Covenant Church in Walnut Creek for 12 years (1983-95). Previously, he served as a youth minister on the San Francisco Peninsula and on the faculty of a Christian liberal arts college in New England. Doug is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. He regularly teaches courses in Church Management and Preaching/Communication for Fuller Seminary Northern California. He is married to Nancy, a public school teacher. They have three adult children. He loves to cycle, write, read, travel, explore the wilderness, discuss hot topics and mediate in a crisis. Doug's involvements include leadership with men's ministry, singles ministry, recovery ministry and cross-cultural mission --- taking him on assignments to East Africa, Israel/Palestine, China, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Bosnia and Croatia, Navajo-land, Mississippi, South Central LA, New York City, and in the urban communities of the SF Bay Area. The ministry he presently guides comes along side of churches that need encouragement as they assess their current situation, as they plan and consider changes, as they face challenging issues, as they grow, as they enter unfamiliar ministry territory, as they reach out with new initiatives, as they seek to heal and re-energize and re-engage. For the past twelve-plus years Doug and his colleagues have consulted, taught, trained, intervened and cheered on more than three hundred local churches of various denominations in California and in other areas of the country. In addition to his church consultations, he occasionally works with businesses, schools, and with other non-profit organizations in strategic planning, team building and conflict resolution. |
